Snowys has a huge range of outdoor gear choices + good buying guides

Few busy tourist towns in Australia have retained their chilled-out seaside vibe as well as Mission Beach. People visit for lazy days on the beach, nearby rainforest walks and lots of chilled out cafes and restaurants with outdoor dining.

Here are some more ideas of things to do in Mission Beach.

1. Nothing

Mission Beach is the kind of town where you should set aside time to do absolutely nothing. You know those Instagram photos by _MarkFitz with the bendy palm trees and pink and purple sunset hues? Many of them are taken in Mission Beach.

This means Mission Beach is the perfect spot to head to the beach with a book or snack platter and sneaky plastic glass of wine and just stop and enjoy the immense beauty of the country we live in.

2. Coffee with a Beach View

If your a sucker for a view with your morning coffee try Castaway Resort and Spa. Their decking looks out over the beautiful palm tree clad Mission Beach. In fact it makes for one of the most ‘holiday like’ coffee views in Australia!

Just a short walk from town along the beach it’s also a good chance to sneak in a small morning walk.

You don’t have to be staying at the resort to enjoy the restaurant (although as far as locations go its A+). You can book all meals online and as it’s popular on weekends for dinner so make sure you book in advance.

3. Explore nearby rainforest

Mission Beach has some great short walks in nearby Djiru National Park, and you even have the chance of spotting Cassowary. But even if you don’t spot any animals the bushwalks are gorgeous, full of towering trees and palms with huge leaves.

4. Walk up Bicton Hill

The nearby Bicton Hill circuit is a great challenge to get the blood pumping and the views at the top make the effort while.

5. Day trip to Dunk Island

Hire or Charter a boat (hopefully the water taxi be running again soon) and head across and explore your own patch of paradise. You can find information about the walks and things to do at Dunk Island Spirit. Unfortunately I didn’t get to visit but it’s definitely on the list for my next visit to Mission Beach!
