Dinner Plain is most aptly described as a ‘cute’ little village in the high country of Victoria on the Omeo side of Mt Hotham. It is an extremely popular winter destination for snow sports as well as growing in popularity for summer high country bushwalking and high country road trips.

It’s also one of the few places in Australia where you can take your dog to the snow (as long as they are registered with your local council)!

Free Camping at Dinner Plain (Seasonal)

Scrubbers End Carpark

In the summer this carpark is available for overnight free camping (in winter it becomes a paid permit vehicle only carpark).

I loved my overnight camp here. Don’t get me wrong, it is literally just a bitumen carpark however it looks over a nice little high country open woodland grasslands, has a toilet block and best of all is a short stroll to the pub! I love nothing more than saving on camp fees so I can splash out on a meal out!
