I RECOMMEND THEIR UNPOWERED CAMPSITE ‘ THE JUNCTION SITE 8’
If your looking for dog friendly camping in Porepunkah, the Mt Buffalo Caravan Park is just 2.3km from town, right on the banks of the Ovens River. If you value privacy but still want the convenience of being in a caravan park The Junction Site 8 is an absolute Gem of a site that ticks all the boxes.
This dog friendly caravan park site is huge and spacious and separated from the next site by 10-20 metres (depending on where you pitch your tent) so is an oddity amongst a sea of normal side by side sites. This is great for dogs like mine that just gets to over-excited being close to other people or dogs.
The site is at the end of the road so there is no through vehicle traffic to worry about, just your own large round about shaped campsite. It is a bit of a through area for bikes and people walking to the river so be prepared and aware there can be some foot traffic if your dog is reactive to other dogs.
This site is unpowered however because of the privacy and space it is more expensive than some of the other sites. We paid $60 a night (still worth it) however this is on a long weekend so it may be cheaper at other times of the year.
For me, this campsite has become a happy place, somewhere lovely and safe to stay, where my dog is welcome and we have space from other dogs and people while still being able to walk to access shower and toilet facilities.
You are of course welcome to stay on other sites in the park with dogs and there are quite a few around each time we stay.
